How Do You Catch & Shoot?

Recap Locating Your Target: Laser Focusing in on your target, that being the middle net hook, or in between two net hooks, the middle of the backboard or the top of the corner on the box of the backboard will help you to become a more efficient shooter.

Catch & Shoot Jump Shots

  1. Defining Pivoting - requires understanding pivoting. Definition of pivoting is spinning on the ball of one foot, like a ballerina, without moving or dragging the pivot foot to a different location. It must remain in the same spot.

  2. Identifying the Pivot Foot - the 1st foot that hits the floor when you catch the ball is the pivot foot. If both feet hit the floor at the same time, called a jump stop, then you can choose which foot to pivot/spin on.

  3. Pivoting, Catching & Shooting - can happen from a jump stop and pivot into the shot, which is when you land on both feet at the same time, which allows one to choose a pivot foot, then pivot into Triple Threat and Shoot the ball. Or you catch the ball and the foot that lands first upon the pivot becomes your pivot/spinning foot, at which point you pivot/spin into Triple Threat and then shoot the ball.

  5. Faith - sometimes in life you have to pivot or spin away in a different direction in order to position yourself for a successful offensive attack. Attacking life from a scoring threat mentality, keeps your opponent playing defense and you can't win always playing defense. JESUS tells us to repent meaning to turn away from our sins and to pivot or turn towards HIM. Matthew 4:17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.
